Jappie sponsors North netball

Northern Region Netball Committee (NRNC) has all the reasons to smile as it has secured a K2 million sponsorship from Minister of Transport and Public Works Jappie Mhango.

NRNC chairperson Chancy Munthali and the Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) treasurer Jane Kachali, who is responsible for Northern Region netball affairs, have confirmed the deal.

Said Munthali: “Yes, we have indeed received K2 million from Honourable Jappie Mhango for the organisation of a netball bonanza and we are grateful to him for that,”

She said the North has had no sponsorship for many years and described the development as a stepping stone towards a better future in the region.

Munthali said the two-day bonanza that will take place during the weekend of December 7-8, will involve all teams in the Northern Region and the venue will be Katoto Secondary School netball court in Mzuzu.

Kachali thanked NAM general secretary Caroline Bapu for her role in securing the deal.

“Yes, I was briefed by North committee on the development but let me also thank Bapu our GS for the big role she played,” she said.

Kachali said the gesture is a big motivation and a morale booster to the girls who for a long time starved for sponsorship.

Northern Region sports development officer Georgina Msowoya also thanked Mhango for the sponsorship, but was quick to point out that league sponsorship would be more valuable than a two-day bonanza.

Mhango, who is also secretary general of the Malawi Olympic Committee (MOC), could not be reached for comment yesterday.
