JBF shares Airtel Rising Stars’ prize with patients

Joyce Banda Foundation (JBF) boys football team used half of their K300 000 Airtel Rising Stars Championships’ prize to buy foodstuffs and laundry soap for patients at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital children’s ward in Blantyreon Thursday.

Speaking on behalf of the students, the foundation’s director Roy Kachale said the players decided to share their spoils with the needy.

“After successfully defending the Airtel Rising Star title, the students decided to abide by one of our four building blocks, which is service to humanity, to help sick children at Queens,” he said.

The children ward’s nurse Isabel Potani thanked the students for the gesture, saying the assistance, which included sugar, rice and laundry soap, would go a long way in helping the 122 children at the hospital.

JBF defended the Airtel Rising Star title few weeks ago after beating Nanjati CDSS 3-2 in the finals at the Lilongwe Technical College.

For their feat, they qualified for an international trip to Nigeria where they will participate in the Airtel Africa Championships this September, alongside ladies’ champions Matindi Academy.

They also carried Malawi’s flag at a similar event in Kenya last year alongside women football champions Namalimwe CDSS. n
