Ntopwa Boys FC owner Isaac Jomo Osman has provided all the 16 teams in the Blantyre Under-14 Football League with uniforms worth over K1.5 million.

Speaking during the presentation of the equipment yesterday at Mpira Village in Chiwembe Township, Blantyre, the former Nyasa Big Bullets supporters’ committee chairperson said he felt obliged to motivate the young football players.

Osman sponsors the league in partnership with Football Association of Malawi (FAM) youth development officer James Sangala to the tune of K500 000.

“I also have a team competing in this league and felt bad to see some outfits playing with bare bellies due to lack of uniforms. I, therefore, thought it wise to make sure all the teams are motivated with proper kits,” he said.

Osman also accused some football officials of just making noise in the media about youth development, but failing to set examples.

FAM general secretary Alfred Gunda, National Youth Football Association (NYFA) vice-general secretary Dan ‘Chemisi’ Makiyi and Blantyre Youth Football Association (BYFA) general secretary Joseph Semu thanked Osman for the kind gesture.

“It is worth appreciating that there are individuals such as Osman, who have the passion of uplifting football standards from the grassroots. Our youths need little things to be motivated and I hope other individuals and companies will borrow a leaf from this,” said Gunda.

Kangaroo Football Academy captain Chifundo Mphasi expressed delight at the donation on behalf of the teams, saying it will go a long way in motivating them.

FAM, through technical director John Kaputa, promised to give each team a ball. Other notable individuals that attended the event were Flames coach Ronny Van Geneugden and his assistants Gerald Phiri,  DeKlerk Msakakuona and Peter Mponda. n
