Some K4 million (about $10 000) is needed to ship donation of sorted items, including for netball, which netball star Mwawi Kumwenda sourced in New Zealand where she plays for EasiYo Tactix netball club.

“Mainfreight NZ has paid for the transport of the container to Malawi, but it will cost a further $10 000 to get the shipment to Mwawi’s village in landlocked Malawi: donations to the cause can be made athttp://www.tactix.org.nz/news/donations-for-malawi ,” reads her club’s website.

“If you would like to contribute to help cover the costs of shipping these goods or to help Mwai in her quest to provide sporting opportunities in her village then donations can be made into the following Netball Mainland fundraising bank account: 06-0837-0150625-002, SWIFT CODE : ANZBNZ 22.”

Her friends and ‘family’ at club collected clothes, balls, toys, furniture and books as part of a deliberate campaign to be donated to families in her Mzimba area as part of her netball clinics.

Kumwenda, who has already signed to represent the Tactix in the 2015 ANZ Championships, has now returned to Malawi to train with the Queens side ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
