K7m NBM boost for Mother’s Fun Run
National Bank of Malawi (NBM) plc has contributed K7 million to Mother’s Fun Run, a safe motherhood initiative run by Nation Publications Limited (NPL).
The initiative is this year mobilising funds towards the purchase of medical supplies and equipment for health facilities in Chikwawa District.
During a cheque presentation ceremony yesterday in Blantyre, NBM Henderson Street Service Centre manager Tamara Mtuwa said that the project aligns with the bank’s mission to enhance the health and well-being of communities it serves.
She said: “Chikwawa District Hospital serves a large population with limited access to quality healthcare, particularly in maternal and neonatal services.
“By contributing to this project, we are addressing a critical gap and playing a role in reducing preventable maternal and neonatal deaths. This not only ensures safer childbirth experiences but also lays the foundation for healthier future generations.”
Mtuwa further highlighted that the bank’s support for the initiative is part of a broader commitment to the healthcare sector.
“This year alone, NBM has made significant contributions, including the donation of wheelchairs worth K6 million to Kamuzu Central Hospital and the handover of two blood bank refrigerators, each valued at K40 million, to Mangochi and Mulanje district hospitals,” she said.
In his remarks, The Nation editor Aubrey Mchulu, who received the donation on behalf of NPL, expressed gratitude to NBM, noting that the contribution will bring smiles on the faces of mothers who will benefit from the initiative.
“Mother’s Fun Run, which began in 2005, complements government’s efforts to reduce maternal deaths. This year, NPL is targeting to raise K300 million in resources, including equipment and medical supplies,” he said.
