Former Flames vice-captain Elvis Kafoteka is trying his luck with Carlsberg Cup finalists Moyale Barracks, hoping for another TNM Super League spell.

Moyale coach Nicholas Mhango confirmed on Wednesday that the right back, who was recently reportedly in Mozambique, was sweating it out with the Mzuzu soldiers.

“He joined us two weeks ago. We need to look at him and see the way forward. Our team feels obliged to help him in his career but as to whether he would eventually be employed in the army that is not for me to comment. You talk to him,” Mhango said on Wednesday.

With the international transfer window having closed on August 31, it seems the former Escom United skipper could sign for the Kaning’ina Lions as a free agent.

“We are just waiting to have him cleared with his former side in Rwanda [Kigali army team, APR],” Mhango noted but Sulom general secretary Williams Banda was unaware of Kafoteka’s move.

FAM transfer matching system manager Casper Jangale yesterday gave the nod to Kafoteka, saying APR handed him a clearance letter and is free to join a team of his choice.

“His case is simple and straight forward, even more considering that he has been unattached for 18 months which renders him an automatic free agent,” Jangale concluded about the former star defender who played at the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations in Angola.
