Kalinde barbs irk MCP MP

Listen to this article

Minister of Irrigation and Water Development Anita Kalinde’s remarks that Malawi Congress Party (MCP) for Lilongwe Msozi South MP Dzoole Mwale was left out of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) did not please the MP on Tuesday.

Kalinde murmured the remarks as the MP was given the floor to contribute to debate on the University of Malawi (Unima) Bill.

Although the whole House did not hear Kalinde’s remarks, Dzoole Mwale told the First Deputy Speaker Chingola that she had repeatedly made the remarks each time he stood up to make a contribution.

“I am asking, can she be given time to express her thoughts and feelings on the MCP NEC? It seems she has a lot of things to say,” Dzoole Mwale said to roars of laughter from other MPs.

Chingola did not make a ruling on Dzoole Mwale’s request.

But Dzoole Mwale insisted that Kalinde’s insinuations that MCP was in trouble should be ignored.

The remarks derailed debate and Dzoole Mwale failed to make substantive contributions.
