Rumphi East legislator Kamlepo Kalua has said the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP)-led government should not turn a blind eye to the case involving the murder of Polytechnic student Robert Chasowa.

Chasowa was killed during the DPP regime in 2011.

Speaking in response to the State of the Nation Address delivered by President Peter Mutharika last week, Kamlepo faulted government, noting it was doing nothing on the case.

“Chasowa was murdered during the DPP regime. We need to know what happened and the President should conclude this case,” he said.

Kamlepo’s remarks prompted Speaker of Parliament Richard Msowoya to caution him on making accusations in the House without providing evidence.

“When members of Parliament are making such accusations, there is a need to have evidence,” said the Speaker.

Chasowa was a fourth year engineering student at Polytechnic. He was found dead on campus, allegedly killed for political reasons. Some arrests were made, but the suspects were released on bail.
