Kananji says he has settled at Wanderers

Elia Kananji, who won Big Bullets the Super League title, has said he has no regrets for not being part of the team in transit to the Comoros for a CAF Champions League clash against Fomboni Club de Moheil on Sunday.

In an interview on Monday, Kananji said he was happy at rivals Be Forward Mighty Wanderers.

“I have settled here. If you do not settle quickly in new environments, it becomes a challenge. A football person must never struggle finding their feet in new teams,” he said.

Kananji earned less credit at Bullets despite winning them the Carlsberg Cup and the TNM Super League — the first for Bullets since 2005. But he is not bothered about his unceremonious departure.

Kananji walked out after being demoted to second assistant coach for allegedly lacking sufficient CAF coaching badges in view of Bullets’ CAF engagements.

“I won the league last season, but I have not necessarily been given target. I am also not setting myself targets. However, it is the wish of every coach to win something next season,” he said.

Apart from winning the post-season Mayor’s Trophy, Wanderers did not claim any worthwhile trophy last season and barely survived in the Super League, finishing ninth on 37 points from 28 games.
