The Malawi Olympic Committee (MOC) president Oscar Kanjala has been elected into the Confederation of Southern African National Olympic Committee (Cosanoc) Board.

Kanjala confirmed on Wednesday about his four-year term. He was elected during a Cosanoc General Assembly held on May 19 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

“It is the first time for Malawi to have elected president on the board, previous presidents were only co-opted,” Kanjala explained on Tuesday.

Sogga secretary general Muriel Hofer, who was elected secretary general of the organisation after a deadlock of two rounds where she overcame contention from Zimbabwean Anna Mnguni, confirmed the positions.

“There are four areas that the board is looking at strengthening this [grouping] which is the finalising of the Cosanoc Strategic Plan, assisting sports organisations with their talent identification programmes, the hosting of Level 2 coaching courses across the region and the provision of technical and logistical support for the Anoca 2014 Youth Games which will be held in Botswana,” Hofer told Swaziland Times newspaper.
