Vying for top seat: Champiti

With just two weeks before the National Referees Committee (NRC) holds its annual general meeting (AGM), only two names have emerged for the post of chairperson.

The AGM is scheduled for October 27 at Baptist College Campus, Falls Estates, in Lilongwe according to general secretary Chris Kalichero.

Incumbent chairperson Patrick Kapanga will compete against Moffati Champiti for the position.

The race for the position of general secretary is again a two-horse affair with Kalichero pitied against Duncan Lengani.

Kalichero said closing date for application is October 20.

“So far, 12 people have applied for various positions, but I cannot give you the names until the closing date,” he said.

A source within the referee’s body said two camps have since emerged within the committee.

“Most referees in the Central Region are behind Kapanga while the majority of referees in the South want Champiti. There is a lot of politics going on,” said the source who did not want to be named.

Champiti could not be reached on his phone to comment on his manifesto. Kapanga confirmed seeking re-election.
