Karonga DC inspires primary school learners to work hard

Karonga district commissioner Willard Mwambo on Friday took time off his busy schedule to inspire Standard Seven learners at Chinsogholo Primary School in Traditional Authority Kyungu in the district.

During the session, the DC taught mathematics and gave out a motivation speech, urging them to refrain from immoral behaviour, alcohol and drug abuse to become productive citizens.

“Productive and responsible citizenship begins at this level. Government depends on you as implementers of the Malawi 2063 development agenda. Therefore, work hard in class,” he said.

In an interview, Mwambo said the gesture was just a statement of encouragement to Standard Seven learners who are also future leaders.

“As their DC, I wanted to encourage them to draw a personal timeline and write down one clear goal they want to achieve in life,” he said.

One of the learners, Atuwanile Mtalama, who aspires to become a university lecturer, said the DC’s gesture motivated her to work hard.

On his part, the school’s head teacher Ben Silumbu appealed for the construction of additional school blocks to accommodate the current enrolment of 712 learners.

He said: “This is the first time a DC has interacted with learners. They are motivated to work extra hard.

“However, the school’s enrolment is higher than the available space. I, therefore, appeal to duty-bearers to construct additional classrooms for the learners. We also have six teachers’ houses against 12 teachers.”

Mwambo: Become productive citizens.
