Karonga’s Chamenade secondary appeals for hostel renovation
Chaminade Secondary School head teacher in Karonga District Amin Pwele has appealed for help to renovate the school’s hostels to create a conducive learning environment.
Speaking to journalists on Monday after receiving 50 mattresses worth K5.2 million from the school’s alumni association, he said the school needs a new face.
“We need to renovate hostels and teachers’ houses. However, we are grateful to the school’s alumni for the unwavering support which will ease challenges for the 480 students at this institution,” said Pwele.
The school’s prefect Blessings Kipandula urged his fellow students to take care of the mattresses.
“As students, we have our own rules and regulations on how best to take care of school property. We thank the former students for their contribution,” he said.

On his part, Chaminade Secondary School Alumni Association vice-president Malumbo Gondwe said they have a responsibility to give back to the school which contributed a lot to what they are today.
He said: “The institution made us who we are today as we were able to proceed to various colleges and universities where we attained higher qualifications.
“So, we decided to donate these mattresses to motivate learners and build their future. This is a continuation of our kind gesture having also recently donated a K20 million solar energy backup system to bridge the electricity power gap.”
The school is under Karonga Diocese of the Catholic Church and opened in 1962.
