Kasungu women earn praisefor promoting immunisation
Malawi Health Equity Network (Mhen) assistant projects officer Herbert Chakwawa has commended mother care groups in Kasungu District for constructing houses for health surveillance assistants to promote access to immunisation in communities.
Mhen and the Ministry of Health are implementing a Health Systems and Immunisation Strengthening project to contribute towards the achievement of health targets for Sustainable Development Goals of ending preventable deaths of newborn and under-five children by 2030.

Through the project, Mhen has trained mother care groups to advocate for improved healthcare services in communities.
Speaking yesterday during a training for Dunda Mother Care Group from Traditional Authority Njombwa in Kasungu, Chakwawa said most of the volunteers in the district have constructed houses for healthcare workers responsible for providing immunisation.
“When healthcare workers stay away from clinics, it disturbs the provision of vaccination,” he said.
Dunda Health Post community midwife assistant Memory Khumbanyiwa also commended the volunteers for constructing the house, saying it has eased the problem of commuting from Bua Health Centre, a 20-kilometre round trip.
On her part, Dunda Mother Care Group chairperson Christina Salangwa thanked Mhen for training the community structures to help in mobilising mothers for immunisation and monitoring other health issues.
Kasungu has 30 mother care groups operating in rural communities.
