Team Kingfisher and Associates comprising Wilma Chalulu and Teri Amaru emerged winner of the Word Alive Ministries International (Wami) HTC programme fund-raising golf tournament held at Blantyre Sports Club (BSC) at the weekend

Played on a four ball better ball stable-ford format, the duo amassed 45 stable ford points beating closest contenders team National Bank of Malawi (NBM) comprising Harry Mukaka and Webster Kaunga on count back as they also carded 45 stable ford points.

In their acceptance speech, captain of the team Chalulu thanked Kingfisher and Associates for the sponsorship and also commended Wami on the HTC programme that has existed since 1994.

“When I was told the purpose of today’s tournament, I could not hesitate to come through and participate. We applaud Wami for this. It is not easy to get sponsorship today. I am sure you guys persevered to achieve what you have today,” said Chalulu.

It was a double for Amaru as she also scooped the individual stable ford accolade with a brilliant score of 37 stable ford points. She beat runner-up Steve Chisale by one point and Sopie Kayira settled for third-place with 35 points. Nearest to the pin on hole 12 proved too difficult as no golf landed on the green in one stroke. Khumbo Mkandawire hit the ball the longest on hole number seven.

Speaking during prize presentation ceremony, Wami head of finance and administration Reverend Hannah Mijoya applauded the corporate world for the sponsorship and all who took the afternoon off to participate in the fund-raising golf tournament.

“As you might be aware, our HTC programme caters for about 53 000 individuals annually, among others rape victims. When they are reactive, our counsellors provide counselling services and then hand them over to relevant medical organisations,” said Mijoya.
