Know how to grow

Listen to this article

Growth does not always happen automatically; it’s often the product of things we deliberately learn, people we meet and experiences we go through. How fast you develop is fully in your hands. How can you develop quickly and consistently?

Be aware of what grows you: Practice positive reinforcement and create conditions to promote growth. Take notes on how you are growing. Know what constitutes a compromise to your growth so personal development becomes habitual, not a plan put together to fuel success.

Approach life from a learning perspective: Be teachable. Growing and developing is about believing you can learn from all around. Stay in the company of those who are innovating, creating and reinventing. Making time to learn is no good if you don’t use what you learn to become better.

Pluck the high hanging fruit: Learn to solve biggest challenges: Don’t try to solve problems at surface level or pick low hanging fruit by doing what’s easy, quick or comfortable. Address issues, do the work so you don’t face same challenges over and over without a course of action.

Learn from the frog in the frying pan: Becoming a relic can creep on you so, keep your eyes open. Don’t be like the proverbial frog that died because it did not realise the stove heat was being raised gradually till it was too late. Don’t adapt or numb your sensitivity to the need for change. The world requires creativity. Have the flexibility and imagination to try something different.

Now take action: What specific tings do you do for personal development?
