Last-minute’ Bt. Fun Run donations flow in

Traditional and new partners of Nation Publications Limited (NPL) today kept registering their ‘last minute’ eagerness to contribute tothis Saturday’s charity 2017 Blantyre Fun Run.

Proceeds of the event will be used to purchase much-needed new medical equipment for Queen Elizabeth  Central Hospital and its 26 satellite medical facilities in Blantyre District.

NPL organises the Fun Run annually as a way of providing a complimentary ‘dream budget’ that secures new equipment and supplies for the chosen hospital that year.

The move particularly focuses on improving services at maternity wards where, on average sometimes, up to 19 babies die at birth, or soon after, at the busy district hospitals on a daily basis.

In consistently carrying out this community social responsibility that honours its esteemed readers and other clients across the country, NPL holds hands with its business partners and other well-wishers who contribute in cash and in kind for the medical supplies that cannot be afforded under the normally-limited hospital budgets.

“People continue giving us massive support by calling out whatever they can donate in this countdown to the Mothers Fun Run on Saturday in Blantyre,” declared a contented NPL marketing manager Albert Banda on Monday.

For most of the day today, Banda kept receiving the ‘come and get our donation’ messages that showed up on his computer or his cellphone’s social media messages –over and above voice calls which beckoned.

Some of the clients assured Banda they would summon him soon after “final decisions” were made by their executives on how large their donations should be.

But renowned marketers Imperial Marketing and Advertising Agency and construction and general trading Sempha Investments Limited this Monday were ready to give their donations in Lilongwe.

Imperial Marketing and Advertising Agency donated K500 000, while Sempha Investments Limited offered K360 000 specifically for purchasing fuel and ‘oiling’ official cars which will be running fun run errands.

“We learnt, from newspapers and other media, the hardships that mothers are facing in this country. We are, hence, here to express our passion by actively participating in this year’s Mothers Fun Run, so that we contribute towards changing the lives of mothers,” marketing leader of Imperial Marketing and Advertising Agency Maxwell Kalulu said when giving his firm’s donation.

And Simpha Investments Limited managing director Charles Zimba stated: “This (NPL) initiative is very commendable and everybody must support it because it reduces deaths among women and children.  Despite being a company that is growing, we never hesitated to help when we were approached.”

On behalf of NPL, Banda on Monday saluted both these donors and all others who earlier made various types and sizes of donations.

“I am convinced that many more donors, including last-minute ones this week, will come forward to make the Blantyre Fun Run a resounding success. It is not for nothing that the Fun Run’s theme is:Safe Motherhood: Together We Can Make a Difference!”Banda enthused.
