Lawyer Chilenga leads Rotary in 4 countries

 Rotary Clubs District 9210 has inducted Malawian private practice lawyer Marshal Chilenga as district governor overseeing Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe and northern Mozambique.

Chilenga is a member of the Rotary Club of Lilongwe and was inducted into the new role during the District 9210 conference in Livingstone, Zambia, from May 28 to June 1 2025. He has taken over from Zambian Tom Kamwendo  He will serve in the role for a year from July 1 2025 to June 30 2026.

Speaking in an interview yesterday, Chilenga said his role entails visiting and guiding 76 Rotary clubs and 40 Rotaract clubs to ensure that they are performing well in seven areas of focus which include water and sanitation, education, environmental protection, disease prevention, maternal health and peace.

“This role gives me an opportunity to serve the communities in the four countries and to engage with fellow professionals and businesspersons while doing so,” he said.

Chilenga further said that in his role, he will be guided by the Rotary 

 International’s four-way test which emphasises on commitment to the truth, fairness, positive relationships and mutual benefit.

He said Rotary leaders are elected three years in advance to give them time to prepare and undergo training.

Rotary District 9210 has 1700 members and 400 Rotaracts as well as interactors who are in secondary schools in the four countries.

Chilenga joined Rotary in 2006 and has served as club trainer, club president, country trainer for Malawi and District 9210 trainer.

He also previously served as a commissioner of the Malawi Human Rights Commission.
