A wave of excitement has gripped Blantyre City as the PremierBet International Legends Cup rolls into action this morning at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.
The two-day football fiesta rekindles the old sweet Blantyre Derby as defending champions Mighty Wanderers Legends face rivals FCB Nyasa Bullets Legends in the first semi-final. Prior to that, there will be an equally mouthwatering clash between Zimbabwe’s Dynamos Legends and Silver Strikers Legends.
Winners will tussle for ultimate glory on Sunday while the losing sides will battle in third-placed match.
“If football fans would like to relive the old glorious days of fantastic football action, let them patronise Kamuzu Stadium in large numbers,” said the Legends’ joint committee chairperson Kelvin Moyo.
In the last edition, Wanderers Legends were the champions after beating Bullets Legends 3-2 on post-match penalties following a one-all result in regulation time.
Wanderers Legends’ captain George Sangala said they are more than ready to defend the crown in normal time and Bullets Legends cannot prevent them from fulfilling their wish.
“If you look at history, Bullets were born out of Wanderers and this means they are our child. So, as a good parent, we will give them a proper upbringing with the right disciplinary action,” he said.
But Bullets’ Legends captain Rahim Ishmael said they will not let Wanderers outshine them again this time around.
“It is our wish to be the champions this year and we are more than prepared to beat any team that stands in our way. Wanderers Legends should expect trouble,” he said.
Silver Legends captain Peter Pindani, whose side has replaced Zimbabwean outfit Caps United Legends, said they are geared for the show.
“As Silver Legends, we are always ready for battle. We will make the Silver family proud,” he said.
According to Moyo, Dynamos were set to arrive later yesterday as we went to press.
He said gate charges are K2000 for pre-sale tickets and K3000 at the gate.
