Acting Senior Chief Mkumpha III of Likoma District has warned that anyone found selling materials meant for the construction of a mini maternity wing, ash pit and incinerator at Yoma Health Centre will be taken to book.
The chief said on Saturday at Yoma Health Centre during the handover of the construction site to Kamkas Contractors that he will personally take action.
“I will personally take action and I will not tolerate anyone found misusing or selling construction materials. When people steal the materials, it affects the quality of the structure, which is not good, and this affects the whole project,” said Mkumpha.
He urged community members to safeguard the construction materials, stressing that the project belongs to the community and seeks to improve healthcare services.
Likoma district director of health services Gracewell Mathewe said the project will help expectant mothers access healthcare services within their reach.
“Therefore, I ask the contractor to complete the project within the agreed timeframe,” he said.
Kamkas Construction Limited director Jiva Kasankha promised to complete the project within the agreed timeframe of 120 days.
“I promise to deliver quality work within the agreed timeframe. I know the impact of compromising such projects, so I will not say much, but the work will testify for me,” he said.
The project is running under the Reformed K5 billion Constituency Development Fund (CDF) at a cost of K685 million.
