Likoma Council to complete K158m office complex
Likoma District Council has moved to resume construction of K158 million office complex which stalled six years ago.
In an interview on Saturday, Likoma District Council acting director of public works Alex Mbawala said the project was expected to be completed by July 2023.
“We have handed over the project to Infrastructure Experts and we expect the work to be completed within four months,” he said.
Mbawala said the contractor assured them of good quality work.
He said once completed, the office complex, which is being constructed with funds from District Development Fund, will provide office space for all directorates at the council, thereby improving coordination and service delivery in the district.
Likoma Ward councillor Ernest Gulu commended Likoma District Council for reviving the project.
He expressed hope that the new contractor will be able to deliver within the stipulated period.
“I advise the contractor to consider employing residents from the district so that they also benefit in form of wages,” said Gulu.
Infrastructure Experts managing director James Mdwazika said he will ensure quality work.
“I am grateful to the council for entrusting this project to us. I want to assure the council and community members that we will deliver as per our contract agreement,” he said.
