Wants to avenge brothers’ defeat: Masamba

Rising boxer Limbani Masamba has challenged renowned boxer Osgood Kayuni to a 12-round non-title bout to be staged at Summit Cultural Centre in Lilongwe on August 18.

Masamba, young brother to Wilson and John, said he wants to avenge the defeats suffered by his two brothers to Kayuni last year.

Fast Boxing Promotions (FBP) of Lilongwe has offered to sponsor the fight to the tune of K220 000 (about $550).

“When we were approached by Masamba, we agreed to sponsor the fight. Both boxers are good and we hope the fans will enjoy top action.

“Since this is not a title fight, we are offering K120 000 (about $300) to the winner while the loser will get K100 000 (about $250),” said the promotions’ director Steve Banda.

In a separate interview, Kayuni acknowledged being challenged by Masamba and that he has accepted to fight.

“He has the cheek to say he wants to avenge his brothers’ defeats? That’s laughable because he cannot stand the heat either. I will punish him and teach him a lesson. I wanted to refuse the challenge, but then people would think I am afraid,” said Kayuni.

Kayuni, who fights in the junior welterweight category, said they have agreed that Masamba who weighs 69 kilogrammes (kgs) (middleweight) will shed four kgs to match him.

“That’s the only condition set for the match. Since he is the challenger he has to fight on my conditions as per boxing rules,” said Kayuni.
