Limbe Leaf donates K3m medical supplies
Limbe Leaf Tobacco Company Limited on Friday commended workers at Dwangwa-Nkhunga Health Centre in Nkhotakota District, for preserving a zero record of maternal deaths in the past year.
Limbe Leaf corporate services manager Willie Zingani said this when the company donated medical equipment and supplies worth K3 million (about $7 500) at the health centre as part of the company’s social responsibility.
“We are highly impressed that with limited resources, medical staff managed to keep the situation under control,” said Zingani.
Apart from assisting communities in the field of health, the company also funds education, afforestation and youth development.
The medical supplies comprised cellular blankets, bed sheets, digital fetal Doppler machine, delivery beds and white gumboots. The donation is a fulfilment of the pledge Limbe Leaf made during Mothers’ Day Fun Run, an initiative by Nation Publications Limited (NPL).
“We are thankful to Nation Publications Limited and Limbe Leaf for the donation. The blankets and other medical kits donated today were in acute supply but now workers and patients have been relieved,” said Nkhotakota district medical officer Alinune Kabaghe.
The beneficiary health centre has about 75 deliveries a month but only had one delivery bed and three improvised ordinary beds.
Kabaghe, however, appealed for more assistance, especially in transport.
Harold Chimphepo, assistant director from the Ministry of Health in Lilongwe, said the country’s health system is facing numerous challenges and non-communicable diseases add on to the burden.
