Blantyre Lions Club’s (BLC) Charity Golf Tournament at Mbawa Country Club in Bvumbwe, Thyolo on Sundayregistered success as it realised K1.5 million (about $3 500), which is K500 000 (about $1 200) more than the expected target.

According to BLC publicist Tarang Makhecha, they organised the tournament to raise at least K1 million (about $2 400) for needy students in public secondary schools in the Southern Region.

“This shows the commitment of companies and individuals to see to it that secondary school students do not fail to progress in their studies due to lack of fees. As a charitable organisation, Lions Club of Blantyre will continue to strive for the plight of needy students,” said Makhecha.

BLC’s president Abraham George thanked all the corporate sponsors, individuals and golfers for making the event a success.

At least 24 corporate companies took part in the contest that saw HTD Limited’s team comprising J. Shaw and A. Botha emerging triumphant with 47 points.

FMB team (Wilma Chalulu and Teri Amaro) became runners-up with 46 points while PCL outfit (Roza Mbilizi and Micheck Essau) finished third with 44 points.

BLC organises the fundraising competition annually, but this is the first time that they have raised more funds that the targeted expectation.
