Lions Club hosts youth mental awareness session in Mzuzu
Lions Club International D412B in partnership with the Lions Quest Programme, has mentored students on mental health issues in Mzuzu.
Speaking on Saturday during the mental health awareness session at Masasa Secondary School, Lions Club of Mzuzu president Victor Gondwe said the activity was part of the club’s monthly theme of mental wellness observed from October 4 to 12.

The session attracted students and teachers from four schools, namely Kileni Private, Masasa, Moyale Barracks and Songwe.
Gondwe highlighted the importance of raising awareness on mental health issues among the youth.
He said: “Mental health is real and we must work collectively to address it. The mental health awareness service provides space where young people can freely associate, learn and express themselves.
“We also urge young people, especially boys, to open up more and accept their vulnerability to avoid harm and become responsible citizens.”
Gondwe also called on other secondary schools to implement the Lions Quest Programme.
A mental health expert Frank Magagula emphasised the urgency in addressing mental health issues, especially among young people.
He said people need to realise that 75 percent of those who develop mental health challenges are below 25.
Masasa Lions Quest Club member Immaculate Mwakafwirwa described the session as impactful.
She said the session equipped her with necessary skills on how to approach mental health issues
