Former Big Brother Africa representative for Malawi Lomwe says he has added acting to his career.

The new career has already been launched as the former FM 101 DJ has already started appearing in the popular South African soap Rhythm City.

In his guest appearance in the soap, Lomwe made his cameo at a party having a chat with one of the main characters Miss Stella who is an employee at Redemption. The party was organised for her employer Mr Miles to meet his business partners.

Rhythm City

is a South African drama series that premiered on the country’s free-to-air television channel e.tv on July 9, 2007 as a replacement to the now-defunct youth-targeted soap opera, Backstage, on weekdays in the competitive 6:30time slot.

Its storyline revolves around the trials and tribulations of those who are trying to break into the music industry and the infidelity, backstabbing, abortion, homosexuality, love and drug addictions of those who have made it in the business.

According to the weekly primetime TV Viewing Figures, Rhythm City is proving to be a winner and the success of the show is an ongoing surprise in that its format is not that different from Backstage.

Garnering an average audience rating of more than two-million viewers, the series often surpasses long-running rivals, 7de Laan and Isidingo.

In June 2011, Rhythm City celebrated 1 000 episodes of broadcasting success and is going strong. In a relatively short time, Rhythm City has cultivated a loyal fan base and achieved soaring AR’s and a local viewership of over three million people, giving Rhythm City the highest viewership of a local soap in e.tv history. Rhythm City has also gained popularity among the youth of Ghana and other African countries.

Lomwe, who is currently based in South Africa, says venturing into acting will not stop him from pursuing his other careers.

“I have not stopped doing music and disk jockeying. I will continue doing all this and I will even go back to radio when the opportunity presents itself,” said Lomwe, real name Tendai Namate.

The Double Wowza hit-maker said he ventured into acting after responding to pressure from people who have been demanding to see him back on television.

“After the media coverage of Big Brother, I have had people all over the continent asking when they are going to see me again so it feels right for me to branch out into acting,” he said.

In an interview with The Nation, the star said he has planned to do more activities in relation to his career and his fans should be on the lookout.
