Malawi Queens’ centre Takondwa Lwazi and shooter Joyce Mvula were in the top three of the most feeds and top scorers’ categories at the ongoing 2023 Netball World Cup as of on Wednesday.

Lwazi, the Queens workhorse in the mould of a tigress, was second on ball feeds with 109, 11 short of the leading feeder Margret Bagala of Uganda while another Malawi player Thandi Galeta was sixth with 97 feeds.

On the other hand, Mvula, who is set for a return to England later this year, was the third leading scorer on 157 baskets.

She was 31 baskets behind leading scorer Sophie Gabin of Australia and 29 behind Tonga’s Uneeq Palavi.

Australia-based Mwawi Kumwenda is the other Queens’ player who appears on the top 10 statistics categories as she is seventh on centre passes with 75.

Ironically, Lwazi, Mvula and Mwawi also won Player-of-the Match accolades in games against Fiji, Scotland and Barbados, respectively.

In an interview on Wednesday , Lwazi attributed her feat to hard work.

She said: “I always thrive to give out more. It’s all about hard work.’

On her high energy levels, the former England-based player said: “I believe it’s just natural and not necessarily that I have super-natural powers. I fight every inch of the way, that’s it.”—Story powered by Ekhaya Farms Foods Limited.
