LWC uses sports in youth evangelism

The Living Waters Church (LWC) is leaving no stone unturned in its efforts to reach out to young people with the gospel of salvation.

The church has since introduced a football tournament to lure more young people into the house of God.

Chigumula LWC district youth chairperson, Alexander Kulugomba, confirmed that his church has integrated football into its ministry because of the appeal it has to the youth.

“Reaching out to the youth requires conventional methods. The youth can be targeted in a number of ways and, for this reason, LWC chose sports, particularly football. Football is probably the most widely watched sport and attracts a lot of interest,” he explained.

Kuligomba said in last year’s football bonanza, the church hosted over 500 youths at one ground, with many giving their lives to Christ.

Kulugomba justified the use of sports in spreading the gospel, saying even Apostle Paul employed it when mentoring Timothy on his physical as well as spiritual well-being.

He said just as there is need for a coach in the game of football, the church, too, has its coaches and mentors in the name of apostles, teachers, prophets, pastors and evangelists to prepare mankind for the Kingdom of God.

Kulugomba expressed hope that sports will teach youths about efficiency and effectiveness.
