Makanjira Water Project excites SRWB board
Southern Region Water Board (SRWB) board chairperson Brown Mpinganjira has expressed satisfaction with the progress of the Makanjira Water Supply Project in Mangochi District.
Speaking on Thursday during a monitoring tour of the project’s site, he said the project will be completed within three weeks.

Mpinganjira emphasised government’s commitment to providing safe and clean water, saying that significant efforts are underway to improve access, especially in rural areas.
“The government wants everyone to have access to clean water because it is a basic need and a right for all,” he said.
Mpinganjira said this will be the first time they have access to treated water.
He said the community has for a long time relied on unsafe water sources and commended them for embracing the initiative, noting that some residents have already started requesting connections.
SRWB engineer Andrew Kacheyo said the project, which has tapped water from Lake Malawi, is at 90 percent completion rate.
“Approximately 61 000 people are expected to benefit from this project,” he said.
Group village head (GVH) Makanjira thanked SRWB for the project, saying it will ease water access challenges in the area.
“During the rainy season, we usually experience diarrhoea outbreaks. This project will help reduce such cases,” he said.
Aufi Magombo, a community member, said clean water is crucial for personal hygiene.
“Clean water will help people fight water-borne diseases such as cholera which are prevalent during the rainy season,” he said.
SRWB is implementing the project to the tune of K11 billion
