Parents of learners at Mchengautuba II Primary School in Mzuzu City have expressed anger at lack of proper classrooms at the school.
In an interview, Mchengautuba block leader said the school’s iron-sheet makeshift classrooms do not provide a conducive atmosphere for learning.
He said: “Yet, through Local Development Fund [LDF] the school embarked on constructing school blocks, but the project stopped in 2014.
“We don’t know why they failed to finish the construction.”
Mchengautuba Parents and Teachers Association chairperson Patrick Chihana said the school is experiencing an increase in enrolment such that more blocks are needed to accommodate learners.
“Classes are congested. We need more classrooms, but certainly not those made of iron sheets,” he said.
Meanwhile, parents are mobilising resources to construct two additional blocks.
The school has 2 385 learners against three blocks.
