Malango leaves US club
Flames forward Mayele Malango has announced his departure from US second-tier club Monterey Bay FC, but has kept a tight lid on his next destination.
Bidding farewell to the club’s fans through his Facebook page, he said: “I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support throughout the past season! Thank you for your passion, loyalty, and dedication.

“Although it’s time to say goodbye, I’m grateful for the time we’ve shared together…Thank you all for the incredible memories and for being a part of this amazing journey. I will always cherish my time with the Monterey Bay FC. I will announce my next club soon!”
The 28-year-old was among diaspora players Malawi National Football Team coach Kalisto Pasuwa drafted into his squad.
Malango, who was born in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), but spent a decade at a refugee camp since arrival in the country in 1998, scored his first international goal last November as the Flames beat Lesotho 1-0 in a friendly.
It was Malawi’s first victory against the Suthus after 16 years.
Pasuwa was not available for comment on Wednesday, but he recently hailed the player as someone who is adding value to the depth of the team.
