Malawi darts team invited to play in UK
The Malawi National Darts Team’s impressive performance at the recent World Darts Federation Africa Qualifiers in Kenya where it finished as runners up, has earned an invitation to the United Kingdom for friendly matches.
Darts Association of Malawi (DAM) president Peterkins Kayira in an interview confirmed about the invitation.
He said some social teams from UK that watched the games online were impressed with Malawi’s performance.
Said Kayira: “For the first time, we participated in the world qualifiers. When we arrived in Kenya, we were considered nonentities.
“But the moment we stepped into the games, our performance was a marvel to watch and nobody believed. It was such a display that prompted the UK teams to invite us.”
He said the games are an opportunity for Malawi players to gain exposure.
“They want us to play a few games with them in the UK and we feel that is a great opportunity for us to polish up our skills,” said Kayira.
DAM resource mobilisation chairperson Amon Chinyophiro in a separate interview said they are currently searching for funds for the trip.
Malawi’s performance at the qualifiers in Kenya also prompted the World Darts Federation to choose the country to host the Africa Qualifiers for both seniors and youths in 2027.
