Malawi diaspora sports teams defeat Zambia
South Africa based Malawi diaspora football and netball teams defeated their Zambian counterparts during friendly matches held at the Eedenvale Sports Complex on Sunday.
The matches in the rainbow nation, were part of Zambia’s Independence Day celebrations.

The Malawi Diaspora Queens opened the day with a dominant 15–5 win over the Zambia Netball Team, displaying strong coordination and effective defending.
In football, the Malawi Diaspora Flames drew 1–1 with Zambia’s Chipolopolo before winning 5–4 on penalties, sparking celebrations among Malawian supporters.
Community representative Phaskani Msiska praised the spirit of the event, joking: “We salute our Zambian friends for offering us a platform to disrupt our generational habit of losing to them. We really needed that commercial break.”
His joke was drawn from the dominance of the Zambian national football team over Malawi in previous encounters.
The matches, strengthened the bond between Malawian and Zambian diaspora communities, with both sides expressing interest in more joint sporting events.
