Malawi to host Southern Africa schools games

Malawi will host the 2026 Confederation of School Sport Association of Southern Africa (Cossasa) Games in August, the Malawi Schools Sports Association (Massa) has announced.

Massa president Blackson Malamula, in an interview yesterday, said hosting the regional showpiece is an honour.

He said: “We are excited, especially as it is the first time Malawi will host the games. We are bringing our athletes into camp during Easter holiday from April 3 to 6.

“You should also know that we failed to participate in these Cossasa Games in Eswatini last year. So we are happy to host the event.”

Malamula thanked the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology for approving Malawi to host the event.

Secretary for Education, Science and Technology Ken Ndala, in a letter to Massa, said the President Peter Mutharika approved hosting of the event.

The letter reads in part: “This approval reflects the government’s commitment to promoting youth development, regional cooperation and sporting excellence among member States of Cossasa.

“Hosting these games provides a valuable opportunity to strengthen relationships among participating countries, showcase our sporting facilities and encourage the growth of athletics and ball games among our students.

“We look forward to working closely with the Cossasa leadership and member countries to deliver a well-organised and memorable competition.”
