Malawi to participate in Cosafa beach soccer tournament

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has registered the country’s beach soccer national team for a Confederation of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa) tournament to be held in the Seychelles from April 9-12.

The commitment by FAM has moved Beach Soccer Malawi (BSM) to organise regional select teams comprising 10 players from playing centres in Salima, Chintheche, Mangochi and Karonga.

In an interview, BSM general secretary Davies Saddo on Sunday said the 40 players will converge on Salima for a camp session under head coach Stereo Gondwe who will be assisted by regional coaches and FAM technical director John Kaputa.

“The players will undergo rigorous training to match current trends of the game,” said Saddo.

The Central Region Beach Soccer committee has since announced its 10 representative into the national team who are Bothwell Saka, James Chikoka, Bently Kaniche, Shamie Sipolo, Miyaka Hassan, Chikumbutso Sharpman, Zahir Hamisi, Dailon Chithala, Atusaye Mwamande and Benson Jamusi.

“We are excited that our players will now be able to get the much-needed international exposure,” said CRBS general secretary Leonard Mazombwe.
