Kamanga: A new chapter for Malawi begins

Artistic Agency may have failed in crowning and sending Miss Malawi to this year’s Miss World pageantry but that is not the end of the agency’s wish to have Malawian candidates at international pageants.

Artistic Agency plans to crown Mr Malawi and send him to next year’s Mr World competition to be held in China.

The agency’s director Vitu Kamanga said all is set for the crown and they are currently inviting applications. He said registration is being done through their Mr Malawi Facebook page.

“A new chapter for Malawi begins. Mr Malawi is open to all males who feel they have all it takes to represent the country among fellow handsome men. We are looking for someone with good knowledge of Malawi’s cultures and tourism sector and who has a passion to support the needy. He should also be a role model,” said Kamanga.

He added that the contestant must be aged between 18 and 26, be physically fit, hold a minimum of Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE), be fluent in English and talented with a fashion taste.

Kamanga said, like the Miss World, Mr World tests contestants through several sporting activities and they have organised athletics, physical assessments, modelling and presentation and debate skills as part of the drilling to produce the best candidate for the country.

Kamanga said the finals for the title will be held on December 22 at a venue to be announced later and the winner will have five months of preparations for the international title event which will take place in June 2014.

When asked about sponsorship, which they cited as the reason for not holding the Miss Malawi pageant last year, Kamanga said: “Mr World is cheap to run. It falls under the licence we already hold and the activities are not as complicated and demanding financially as those in Miss World. Of course we will not do it alone as some organisations have given us some hope that they are eager to support the crown.”

This will be the first time for Malawi to crown Mr Malawi and participate at the Mr World competition.
