Malawi women’s football among Africa’s biggest climbers

The unpredictability of world football rankings has seen inactive Malawi national women football team among Africa’s biggest climbers.

According to www.fifa.com, Malawi have leapt by seven places, from 127 to 120 on the latest ranking released on Friday.

The last ranking was released in December 2012.

Malawi are 21st in Africa and sixth in southern Africa behind Banyana Banyana of South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Zambia, Mozambique.

Tanzania, Mozambique and Zambia have also gone up by seven places and they tie on position 112 but in Africa are ranked Tanzania 18, 19 and 20 respectively.

Africa women football top-six rated teams are Nigeria (32), Cameroon (49), Ghana (50), South Africa (53), Equatorial Guinea (53) and Cote d’Ivoire (68).

There are 125 ranked teams in the world, including 36 from Africa.

The United States still lead the pack ahead of Germany and Japan, with Brazil, France and Sweden following in that order.

On position 100, Nicaragua are the latest biggest movers by nine steps.

Kuwait are the least ranked team sharing position 125 with others, including Bermuda who have fallen by nine steps.
