Malawian experience with Afro Café

Listen to this article

Cake_chocoThere are a number of restaurants in the cities of Malawi with most of them located right in the centres of the cities. Though this might be a good thing, it does not offer a good environment for those wishing a quiet place where someone can just read a book or have a business meeting with minimum distractions.

Located off Chichiri roundabout, Afro Café is one of the places that will offer you the tranquility that you might need on a lazy Sunday or any other day for a quite light meal. Despite ambiance, the café which is run by the couple keep the character of the eatery intact by running it as a couple with a few other workers.

One is tempted to become a regular—with the friendliness of the workers at the café as they serve you being their charm. They even know their customers by name: not because they are a few, but because they take an initiative to know them.

But the service would be in vain if their coffee did not prove you can have a great experience with Mzuzu coffee, or if their club sandwich did not tell your test buds what they have been missing.

Offering light meals from burgers, rolls, smoothies, sandwiches and English breakfast, the café, which opened in January this year, also holds Jazz nights with buffet served during the performances.

The restaurant promotes local made food products by having Malawian coffees and products in their Kitchen no wonder dominating their clientele are expatriates trying to have a Malawian feeling.

Charles Baudouim Victor, one of the regulars at the café told Chill that he likes the place because of its friendliness and the food.

“In Belgium, we have a rich eating culture with a lot of restaurants and being here proved to me that there is also something Malawi can offer,” said Victor.

Afro Café is one place that can be ideal for a business meeting, for a quite romantic date, or just a fast cup of coffee.
