As part of celebrating with the nation during the 50th Independence celebrations, Airtel Malawi will host a mega party tomorrow afternoon at Limbe Country Club.

The long-awaited Mwezi Wawala (Tithyole Dansi) video will be launched at the event.

Briefing the press at their offices in Limbe, Airtel Malawi brand communications manager Isabel Kachinjika said tomorrow’s party is a climax of a series of events that have been taking place over the past couple of weeks.

According to Kachinjika, the Airtel Malawi staff are a fun-loving people and the video is not about selling Airtel as a brand, but giving Malawians something to celebrate about.

“Charity begins at home and that is no exception to Airtel. That is why we filmed our own version of the music video at Airtel just to show that we are a fun-loving bunch and that this is indeed a year of jubilation. The video is available on Youtube and is creating a lot of hype,” she said.

According to Tapps Bandawe, managing director for Audio 360, who is the producer of the song and was responsible for filming the video, the video is a celebration of Malawi’s independence as well as the message that everything is possible when people connect.

Bandawe said Malawians are represented through the different ways the artists in the song presents themselves, for example, Lulu as a minibus driver, Anjiru Fumulani as a tailor, Theo Thomson as a street cleaner and Skeffa Chimoto as a hair dresser.

The event tomorrow will be spiced by live performances from the 11 of the 20 artists featured in the song who will include Lucius, Lulu, Skeffa, and Tay Grin.

Apart from premiering the music video, a raffle draw where patrons who buy the K80 Tisangalale voucher will stand a chance to win amazing prizes from Airtel will be conducted at the event.

Curtain raisers at the feast include five best performances that were selected in the past weeks as Airtel was running a talent search challenge through the popular Gowelo Beats program on FM101 where listeners were challenged to sing their own version of the song live on air.
