Malawian teenager Petro Mthunzi might undergo trials with English Championship side, Leicester City youth team next August following his successful Manchester United Summer School Camp.

The 15-year-old Saint Andrews International High School student spoke about his Leicester City hope on Saturday on return from the UK alongside school mate Gospel Kazako junior.

“I did not know that one of the coaches was a Leicester City scout. He took my contacts and wanted to know if I play for an established club in Malawi and if I fancied undergoing trials with Leicester City youth team around the same time next year. I accepted,” said Petro.

Leicester City promised to formally write Mthunzi’s parents on the trials.

The two boys spent over two weeks in the UK with Exsportise as the organisers of the summer camps at various youth development centres.

English clubs use the centres to identify talent. Parents meet all the costs for the trip, according to internet information.

“I went to the UK at Sir Bobby Charlton Soccer Camp last year, but this year, it was more successful. I trained at Trafford Training Centre on Thursday and I was privileged to interact with goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard in a question and answer session,” Mthunzi said.

Mthunzi, who is bound for Grade 11, was at Beston College Camp with the Manchester United hopefuls whereas the 12-year-old Kazako junior attended Arsenal youth camp at Seaford College.

“I have improved my fitness, shooting and passing. I would encourage parents whose children like football to encourage them to follow their dreams through such trips,” said Kazako junior who, like Mthunzi, plays in midfield.

In an interview, Gospel Kazako senior said he publicised his child’s UK trip for the sake of other parents who are capable of sponsoring their children to such camps.

“Exsportise camps run in association with Arsenal Soccer Schools, aims to encourage students to play ‘The Arsenal Way’. You will be learning new soccer skills in soccer camps coached by England Premiership professional soccer teams such as Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal,” reads internet information on the camps.-
