Police in Chikwawa have arrested a 22-year-old man on suspicion that he demanded pubic hair from a 30-year-old woman with albinism.

According to Chikwawa Police Station public relations officer Foster Benjamin, the suspect, Ephraim Thomas committed the offence in 2014 and fled to Mozambique to avoid a possible arrest.

He said; “In that year, the suspect attempted to persuade the lady (name withheld) into offering him her pubic hair, saying he wanted to use it to treat his sick wife. He claimed that he had been instructed to do so by a certain witchdoctor.”

However, according to Benjamin, the woman rejected the request and that prompted the suspect to issue threats to her vowing to find other means to get the hair on his own.

The suspect later fled to Mozambique after learning that the issue had been reported to relevant authorities.

Thomas was arrested on February 1 after his return from his hideout and will appear before court soon to answer charges of conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

He hails from Zalera Village in the area of sub-T/A Ndakwera in Chikwawa District.
