Police in Lilongwe arrested 39-year-old Ramsey Samuel on January 4 2024 for allegedly proposing women through his Facebook account and promising financial support but stole from them when they met at Mitundu in the district.

Lilongwe Police Station spokesperson Hastings Chigalu told Weekend Nation that seven women have come forward to claim that the suspect stole from them items including phones after sleeping with him.

Chigalu said one of the victims, a 32-year-old woman from Nkhamenya in Kasungu, told police that in September 2023, three days after accepting Samuel’s friendship request on Facebook, the suspect proposed her and she “happily accepted”.

Samuel is reported to have invited the woman to Mitundu, promising to refund her bus fare when they meet.

The suspect: Samuel

Said Chigalu: “The victim travelled to Mitundu where she spent a night together with the suspect at a certain rest house.

“However, in the morning, as was the case with the other six victims who narrated their ordeal to police, while the Nkhamenya victim was taking a shower, the suspect took two cellphones worth K180 000, and disappeared.”

Police claim that Samuel, who has since been charged with three separate counts of theft, admitted stealing five cellphones worth K385 000 from three different women in a similar fashion.

Police have since advised women and girls to take extra caution when dealing with people they only know through social media to avoid being victims of such malpractices.

Samuel comes from Chidzulumbi Village, Traditional Authority Masula in Lilongwe District.

  1. I loved even more than you will get done right here. The picture is nice, and your writing is stylish, but you seem to be rushing through it, and I think you should give it again soon. I’ll probably do that again and again if you protect this walk.
