Manet+ urges members to adhere to Covid-19 preventive measures
Malawi Network of People Living with HIV and Aids (Manet+) has urged its members across the country to continue adhering to Covid-19 preventive measures.
Manet+ programmes manager Falesi Moyo made the call on Wednesday in Karonga during a training on HIV and Aids and Covid-19 among people living with HIV and other stakeholders in the district.
She said: “We are orienting our members across the country that they need to adhere to ART [antiretroviral therapy] despite the Covid-19 pandemic.
“This is because once immunity has been compromised for people living with HIV; chances of being affected by Covid-19 are very high and can lead to more people dying.”
Moyo also urged young people living with HIV to adhere to treatment despite some Covid-19 restrictions such as social distancing that does not allow them to share ideas in teen clubs as they used to do.
Teachers Living Positively vice-president Chikome Mhango commended Manet+ for the orientation, saying many people, including those living positively, were relaxing in adhering to Covid-19 preventive measures.
“This orientation has been an eye-opener and we are going to preach this message to our colleagues so that we stay safe and well,” he said.
