Mangochi District Hospital medical officer Chimwemwe Thambo has appealed to non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and other partners to help the hospital with hand-washing facilities.

He made the appeal on Saturday on the sidelines of a visit by the Association of Malawian Midwives to engage health workers on how they can handle Covid-19 cases.

Thambo said the district has 47 health centres and they need hand-washing facilities.

Washing hands is one of the preventive
measures against coronavirus

“We are trying our best to put in place measures to prevent the spread of the infection. But Mangochi being, a vast district with many health centres, we need help from well-wishers,” he said.

The association’s president Ann Phoya encouraged the health workers to ensure that they administer quality services to patients even in the wake of coronavirus.

“You vowed to help people during bad or good times. Let not the virus scare you,” she said.

The association donated buckets and liquid soap to the hospital.
