The Martyr’s Memorial Service Organising Committee has appealed for K1.3 million (about $3 611) to meet the publicity budget of the 2013 ceremony to be held at Nkhata Bay Boma.

The committee’s chairperson T/A Mkumbira and Nkhata Bay district commissioner Fred Movete sounded the appeal in an interview on Wednesday.

The two have also said President Joyce Banda is expected to attend the function.

Malawi commemorates the day on March 3 to honour fallen heroes and heroines who sacrificed their lives for the freedom, the country enjoys today.

The committee further appealed to radio stations to support it in publicising the commemoration ceremony through news broadcasts and advertorials.

The 54th martyrs’ commemoration will be held on Sunday, March 3.
