Masamba, Mahilasi fight shifted further

The non-title bout between Limbani Masamba and Moses Mahilasi has been shifted further to a later date due to venue problem.

The fight was expected to take place today at Blantyre Youth Centre (BYC), but it has coincided with the hosting of the national finals of the Airtel Money Netball Championships.

According to Namisonga Boxing Promotions managing director Charles Nkhoma, they could not have the fight side by side with the netball contest, which is free of charge for spectators, because that could mean a loss in gate revenue.

“We apologise to boxing fans for this inconvenience. The problem was beyond our control. However, we promise to conduct this much anticipated fight at the same venue at a later date to be arranged in the next few days,” said Nkhoma.

However, Masamba and Mahilasi said the shifting of the fight will not affect their training as they will keep on shaping themselves up until the day it will finally happen.

The fight was initially scheduled for two weeks ago, but the date was changed to today to give the boxers ample time to prepare for this first high-profile fight in Blantyre in almost 10 months.

The fight comes a few months after 22-year-old Masamba lost a title bout to Chimwemwe Chiotcha. Masamba’s fighting record is of five technical-knockout wins and two defeats.

Mahilasi, 35, has had no fight in the last two years. His record is of 22 victories in 30 professional fights.
