Matindi women football rolls into action

The second season of the Matindi Academy Schools Women Football Tournament rolls into action today with a Southern Region encounter between hosts St Andrews International High School and St Paul’s Secondary School.

According to the Southern Region Women Football Committee (SRWFC) general secretary Emmaculate Chiwaya, the other fixtures will follow next week after some teams complained that they were not well prepared for the games.

“Our fold has registered 32 teams, but most of them have excused themselves from the games so as to have ample time for preparations such as assembling their squads. Therefore, we will only have one game this week,” she said.

Meanwhile, Central Region Women Football Committee (CRWFC), which has been offered the Matindi Academy sponsorship for the first time, has announced they will kick off their competition next week.

CRWFC general secretary Fagnes Kazingatchire, whose organisation has so far registered 21 teams, said on Thursday that they need to first launch the event this Saturday at Nankhaka Ground in Lilongwe before the matches begin.
