Mawhoo set for Malawi debut bow

South African top artist Mawhoo will for the first time perform in Malawi on December 7 at the Bingu International Convention Centre’s Amphitheatre in Lilongwe.

The trending amapiano star is coming to perform at the show dubbed ‘The Mawhoo Experience’, which has been organised by Impakt Events Management, who are also organisers of the Sand Music Festival.

The entertainment company has failed to hold the Sand Music Festival event for two years in a row since the death of its founder Soldier Lucius Banda.

Coming to Malawi: Mawhoo.

Speaking in an interview yesterday, Impakt Events Management lead coordinator Yamikani Chinguwo said the show will be used as a fundraiser for next year’s Sand Music Festival.

“The event is not a substitute for the festival. Fans must expect a great mix of new and classic hits from Mawhoo as she will be performing live in Malawi for the first time,” he said.

Chinguwo said their decision to invite the South African artist was guided by her growing profile both in her country and internationally.

He said: “Mawhoo is one of the most trending artists at the moment. She has featured big artists

such as Kabza de Small, Maphorisa and Master KJ. She is also a great stage performer with massive energy.”

The show will be supported by local artist Tay Grin and amapiano star Joe Ikon.

In a separate interview yesterday, Tay Grin said it is an honour for him to be part of the show, stressing that Mawhoo is one of the exciting voices in African music at the moment. The Nyau King said sharing a stage with her presents a powerful opportunity to amplify Malawi’s cultural footprint.

“My mission when it comes to such platforms goes beyond a music performance. It is about exporting Malawian talent to the world,” he said.

Tay Grin added that the show is a bridge that strengthens cultural exchange, raises the Malawian flag and pushes local music further into the world stage.

Mawhoo, real name Thandeka Ntontobeko Ngema, is a singer, songwriter and model. She broke on the scene following the release of her debut single Umshado which features Heavy K.

She is well-known for songs such as Ngilimele, Uzizwa Kanjani, Bengicela and Ngiyathanda. Mawhoo has performed in other African countries such as Botswana, Eswatini, Zimbabwe and Mozambique
