Long time Silver Strikers fan Mike Tembo has joined the race for the position of general secretary of the team.

Tembo is expected to compete against incumbent Owen Munthali who has so far not confirmed his candidature.

Silver elections are scheduled for April 21 at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe.

“I want to bring back discipline in the team and improve the day to day running of the club. Silver have gone through a bad patch during the past two seasons. This shows something is wrong and I want to bring sanity and harmony into the club,” he said.

Tembo said once he is elected, he wants to set up a secretariat which will run the affairs of the club on a day-to-day basis.

“We have a clubhouse but we fail to utilise it for the benefit of the team. I want to change all that so that the team benefits. I also want the club’s affairs to be run transparently. The situation now is that things are done in secret without the knowledge of some of the executive members,” he said.

In a separate interview, Munthali said he is consulting on whether to seek re-election.

“I am not rushing, I will make a decision when time is ripe. I have to ask my family, employees and the supporters who voted for me. I also have to make a true assessment of my failures and successes before I commit myself to another term,” said Munthali.
