Minister of Health Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda has commended Chitipa district commissioner (DC) Macmillan Magomero for motivating healthcare workers to work hard.

Speaking on Friday when she visited Chitipa District Hospital, she said she was impressed to learn that the DC attends morning meetings with the facility’s officials, which promotes teamwork, coordination as well as transparency and accountability.

Chiponda said as controlling officers, there is need for DCs to be part of activities to plan for the day’s schedule and monitor drugs and medical supplies.

She said: “I am impressed with healthcare services at the district hospital. I have been to the labour ward which is clean with neatly dressed nurses who were busy attending to patients to keep a good track record of maternal and neonatal service in the district.

“I also went to the pharmacy which is also well-stocked with basic medicines and supplies. I am also impressed that the DC attends morning meetings with the District Hospital Management Team as well as healthcare workers.”

The minister has since called on other DCs to emulate Magomero’s example if healthcare facilities are to be efficient in providing healthcare service.

Magomero said as a controlling officer, it was his duty and responsibility to create a conducive working environment through morning meetings.

He said: “As a leader, I am duty-bound to make sure that there is proper handover between night and day shift healthcare workers, proper pharmacy and drugs utilisation, cleanliness as well as time management.

“Again, meetings with healthcare workers help to understand challenges and technicalities and real time information on locum and be part of the solutions.”
